Past trainings:
The Power of Note-Taking
“The ability to take in information and make it one’s own, by processing it, restructuring it, and then presenting it in a form so that it can be understood by others (or by oneself at a later point)” is a basic still that can be useful throughout your career (Cohen, Kim, Tan, & Winkelmes, 2013. P. 95). Effective note-taking skills address the challenge to stay focused and to remain actively engaged when learning new material or participating in meetings and other online interactions. Participants will improve note-taking skills through activities and discussion.
Asserting Yourself in Conflict Situations
Don’t overreact. Don’t sell yourself short. The easiest way to gain something you need is often simply to ask. This training addresses assertiveness in a variety of challenging situations and provides opportunities for participants to practice using an assertive style under pressure. Whether negotiating an important issue, standing firm for your position under pressure, or simply wanting to express your thoughts and feelings clearly to others in ways they are more likely to listen to, the ability to assert yourself is crucial to reaching outcomes that work. Through activities, role-play and discussion, participants will build understanding and skills for moving past conflict and turmoil.
Effective Team Work: From Conflict to Collaboration
Conflict in a team situation is challenging and team members need strategies for achieving positive resolutions. Participants will learn to identify the dynamics at play in the team and will learn and practice strategies for moving the group forward. Through role-play, case analysis and discussion, participants will build understanding of group task, social/maintenance, and dysfunctional roles and gain skills to encourage collaboration and to minimize behaviors that interfere with the function of the team.
Building Harmony After Turmoil
Conflict in the workplace impacts job effectiveness and job satisfaction. Managing conflict effectively provides the opportunity for healing, but it can take time and there’s a lot you can do to facilitate harmony and growth. Participants will learn about types of apologies, approaches to achieving forgiveness and how to make meaningful reparations. Through role-play, case analysis and discussion, participants will build understanding and skills for moving past conflict and turmoil.
Facilitating Group Activities Online
Increase the attention and learning of participants in synchronous and asynchronous online meetings and discussions. Learn to facilitate effective active learning in groups, prepare participants to work in teams, ensure accountability with deliverables, and implement active learning techniques. Participants will learn and practice techniques for using groups to actively involve online participants and better achieve goals.
Improving Online Engagement
From adversity comes new strength. We were forced to work differently in 2020. You’ve proven it can be done. Now it’s time to learn to do it more effectively. Learn techniques for building and maintaining professional relationships successfully via technology. Through self-assessment, case studies, activities and discussions, participants will learn to maximize the positive impact of their online relationships for increased professional success.
Dynamics of Power
What is power and how do you acquire it? How do you use personal power and influence in conflict situations? What are the implications of exercising your power in the workplace? Learn how to recognize the power base of others and gain insight into your own. Through video clips, activities, self-reflective exercises and discussions, you will learn to be more comfortable with power dynamics and learn to use your power in positive ways.
Workplace Communication Skills
Effective professional communication skills are essential for success in today’s workplace. Gain tools that enable you to communicate with clarity and impact. Learn to be a more mindful active listener. Learn to navigate difficult conversations and more effectively manage conflict. Through activities, role-play and discussion, participants will increase their communication skills to minimize the potential for misunderstanding and increase their ability to inspire others through clear and focused communication strategies.
